About the event
Jubilee Collective and the Vancouver WA NAACP are teaming up for a joint Good Friday Stations of the Cross service set at the scenes of the deaths of three residents at the hands of police.
Jubilee Collective is doing it because of our deep commitment to the story of Jesus. We are taught in scripture our God was legally tried, first by his peers, then the governing body, then executed by the law enforcement of his time. Rev. Lenny, Jubilee’s pastor, has a tradition of spending Good Friday near scenes of tragedy. He has done this since seminary. This year he was struck how so much had happened in Hazel Dell over 2020. He tracked a route for a walking liturgy that would take us near the sites of the deaths of William Abbe, Jenoah Donald, and Kevin Peterson.
The Vancouver WA NAACP wants to continue our calls for fair and open investigations into all three of these incidents, but more importantly as our Christian siblings turn their eyes towards holy week and the story of Jesus Christ we remember that Jesus was a brother. A friend. A son. Jesus had a family. Jesus had a mother who watched her son die. William, Jenoah, and Kevin also do. All these stories no matter what the investigations eventually reveal are tragedies.
